The North Carolina Department of Transportation is distributing more than $132 million in State Street Aid, also known as Powell Bill funds, to 508 municipalities across the state.
The initial allocation of the funds went out earlier this month. The other half will be paid by the end of the year.
The Powell Bill funds distributed locally include:
- City of Goldsboro – October Allocation – $434,151
- Town of Mount Olive – October Allocation – $64,138
- Town of Pikeville – October Allocation – $10,109
- Town of Fremont – October Allocation – $19,967
- Town of Seven Springs – October Allocation – $2,058
The Powell Bill requires towns and cities to use the money primarily for resurfacing streets within their corporate limits. It can also help pay for construction, improvements, repairs and maintenance of any street or public thoroughfare, including bridges, drainage systems, and curbs and gutters, as well as the planning, construction and maintenance of bikeways, greenways or sidewalks.
