October 30, 2026, 86, – Nita Gray Keel Jackson peacefully passed from her earthly life on October 30, 2026. Nita was born on March 20, 1940 in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina to Albert Earl Keel and Ethel Johnson Keel. She has two siblings surviving her, Elbert Earl Keel of Greensboro, North Carolina and Ethel Mae Keel Sisneros of Mount Jackson, Virginia and one brother who predeceased her, John Wayne Keel.
On June 7, 1958, at the age of 18, Nita married the love of her life Robert Carson Jackson in Goldsboro, North Carolina. They were blessed with five sons, who all survive her: Robert Melvin Jackson, born in Provo, Utah; Albert Mitchell Jackson, born in Greensboro, North Carolina; Scott Darryl Jackson, born in Goldsboro, North Carolina; and Marshall Todd Jackson and Brent Keel Jackson, both born in Kinston, North Carolina. In addition to her 5 sons, she is survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. One of her granddaughters, Lindsay Nicole Jackson, predeceased her.
Nita joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 18 years old. She was a woman of great worth and the highest integrity in everything she did. She was a faithful member of the Church every day of her life, and her love of the Lord and the Church were always at the center of her life. Her greatest joys in life were serving others, spending time with her family and surprising everyone with her wonderful and sneaky sense of humor. Nita was always the smartest person in the room, but never brought attention to it, because of her amazing humility and consideration for others. She had an incredible gift of making others feel welcome and loved, regardless of the circumstances. That was one of many gifts she imparted to her children and grandchildren and that gift will survive her and be her legacy throughout the generations. To the last moments she could speak, she spoke of the love she had for her family, the joy she felt with her family, and how proud she was of them.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the team at Kitty Askins Hospice. Their compassion, love and outstanding care of Nita made an otherwise unbearable situation a lot more comfortable for her and her family, making it possible for Nita to go home peacefully.
