October 30, 2026, 77, – Judy Thompson Grady, 77, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 30, 2026, at her home. Born in Wayne County on June 19, 1949, Judy was the daughter of Nancy Lee Thompson and the late Chester Thompson. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Monty Keith Grady, and her granddaughter, Lauren Grady.
Judy was a hardworking woman who took pride in everything she did. For many years, she owned and operated MJM Movies in the Grantham community, where the business was located alongside her husband’s business, Grady Feed and Fertilizer. She later worked with Young’s Auto Salvage and most recently with Flight Exclusive in Kinston. Through the years, Judy built lasting connections with those around her, leaving her own special mark on the people and places that were part of her life.
Judy had a love for the simple pleasures that made life special. She grew up enjoying good music and especially loved listening to Elvis Presley, Conway Twitty, and Billy Joy Royal. She also enjoyed settling in with a good mystery by Stephen King, finding pleasure in a story that kept her guessing. But above all her interests and pastimes, nothing meant more to Judy than her family.
Family was the heart of Judy’s world. She shared a close bond with her loved ones and was fiercely protective of her family, always looking out for her own and standing by those she loved. Her family was her greatest treasure, and the time they spent together was what she cherished most. She loved her people deeply, and that love was evident in the way she cared for them. The memories they shared and the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of her family’s story.
Judy leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including her mother, Nancy Lee Thompson; daughter, Annette Grady; son, Dewayne Grady; grandchildren, Nikki Kiser and husband, Joshua, Megan Goins, Aaron Grady, Zachary Brooks, Jacob Grady, Sarah Owens and husband, Philip, Noah Grady, and Amberley Grady; great-granddaughters, Lucy Grady and Mila Aiuto; and brother, Jerry Thompson and wife, Brenda. Each of them held a special place in Judy’s heart, and each will carry a piece of her love with them in the days and years ahead.
Though Judy’s passing was sudden, the love she shared, the memories she created, and the special place she held in her family’s life will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of the family she cherished so dearly.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Wayne Memorial Park.
