September 20, 2026, 71, – Joe Dale Hawley, 71, of Sneads Ferry, formerly of Goldsboro North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at his home September 20, 2026.
Born on June 23, 1955, in Wayne County, North Carolina, to the late Garland and Arie Hawley. Joe lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. Known to many as “Joe,” “Joe Dale,” or “Joe Won,” he was respected for his dependability, admired for his work ethic, and loved for his willingness to help anyone in need.
Joe began his career with Dewey Brothers before embarking on a distinguished career with Duke Energy, formerly Carolina Power & Light (CP&L), where he dedicated 38 years of service. Throughout his career, he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of colleagues through his commitment, integrity, and dedication to his work.
While Joe took pride in his professional accomplishments, his greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Allyson Hawley; his sons, Jason Hawley and fiancée Lucy, and Rhett Hawley and Kristen; and his daughter, Brittany Dickens.
Known lovingly as “POPS” to his grandchildren, Joe treasured every moment spent with them. He leaves behind Tilly and Waylon, children of Jason and Lucy; Brody, son of Rhett and Kristen; and Lilah, Walker, and Willow, children of Brittany. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in watching them grow.
Joe is also survived by his brother, James Hawley, and wife Pam as well as his sister-in-law, Evelyn Lamm and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Lamm.
Outside of work, Joe found extraordinary joy in the things he loved most. Whether he was spending a day on the golf course, saltwater fishing, going to the mountains, casino trips, scratching lottery tickets or creating beautiful works through wood carving, he embraced life’s simple pleasures. He was also known as the neighborhood handyperson, always ready with a tool in hand and eager to help family, friends, and neighbors alike. Joe never met a problem he would not try to fix.
Those who knew Joe will remember his straight forwardness, sense of humor, and generous heart. He expressed his love not only through words, but through actions. Whether repairing something that was broken, lending a helping hand, or simply showing up when someone needed him, Joe demonstrated every day what it meant to care for others.
His legacy lives through the family he cherished, the friendships he cultivated, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and generosity. Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Seymour Funeral Home. The family will have a private graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
The family finds comfort in the words of Matthew 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Joe will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
