WCC Holds Grand Opening, Ribbon Cutting for Building Expansion

The Pine Building underwent first-floor renovations and has added a custom lecture hall to provide more space for classroom instruction and campus events. The construction project also included paving the building’s gravel parking lot.

The renovation enables growth in WCC’s nursing department, allowing the College to accept more students into its limited-admission nursing programs.

During the ceremony, WCC President Patty Pfeiffer spoke about the expansion project and the College’s role in training more nurses to fill vital jobs in healthcare. “We acknowledge our responsibility to contribute to the workforce in our local industries, and this ceremony is a recognition of that commitment,” she said.

WCC Nursing Department Chair Michelle Garon shared how important the project was to the nursing students and instructors. “Looking at this beautiful new lecture hall and walking through the renovated first floor makes us proud of our new area, but most importantly, it reminds us of what it truly represents, which is the ability to impact more lives,” Garon said.

Daniels and Daniels Construction and Moseley Architects served as the building and design firms for the project.

Jeremiah Daniels, president of Daniels and Daniels Construction, noted the possibilities and opportunities for WCC students in their new state-of-the-art facility. “This is such an amazing place to learn and study,” he said. “We are incredibly honored to be a part of this team with Wayne Community College and our design partners.”

Craig West, vice chair of the WCC Board of Trustees, concluded the ceremony by highlighting the project’s benefits to the College and to Wayne County. “This entire construction process has created a tangible reminder that Wayne Community College is poised to meet the workforce training needs of its community,” he said.
