WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A 19-year-old Clayton man has been arrested and charged following a high-speed motorcycle pursuit that began in Wayne County and ended in Sampson County, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Brayden Kenneth Daker, 19, of Daffodil Lane in Clayton, was arrested following an investigation into the pursuit, during which authorities say speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies received numerous calls from concerned citizens reporting a motorcycle being operated erratically and at a high rate of speed in the Grantham area.
Deputies located the motorcycle traveling south on U.S. Highway 13 toward Newton Grove. When deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The pursuit eventually ended near the intersection of Creel Road and Highway 55 in Sampson County. Authorities said the driver abandoned the motorcycle, fled on foot and entered a nearby cornfield.
Deputies were unable to locate the driver at that time but were able to identify him, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Warrants were subsequently obtained for Daker’s arrest.
With assistance from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Daker was later taken into custody in Clayton. He was transported to the Johnston County Detention Center and given a $40,000 secured bond.
Daker faces charges of felony fleeing to elude arrest, resisting a public officer, speeding, no motorcycle endorsement, improper turn, failure to stop for a duly erected stop sign, failure to maintain lane control, driving left of center and no registration plate displayed.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said deputies from Patrol Shift A were involved in the case, with assistance from the Sampson County and Johnston County sheriff’s offices.
