August 17, 2026, 81, – Janice Lynn Murphy, age 81, of the Suttontown Community, passed away in her home on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Lynn was born in Sampson County to the late H.C. Murphy and Ruth Elizabeth King Murphy. She was a 1963 graduate of Hobbton High School and a member of Goshen New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church.
From an early age, Lynn learned the importance of hard work, dedication, and doing her part. She carried those values with her throughout her life and was known as a committed, dependable, and hardworking woman who never shied away from responsibility. Whatever the task, Lynn was willing to do her part and could always be counted on to see things through.
For all her hard work, Lynn found her greatest happiness in the simple things in life. She treasured time spent with her family, looked forward to an evening at the auction, and was just as content sitting at home watching a good movie. Lynn did not need anything extravagant to enjoy life. The comforts of home, the company of those she loved, and the simple pleasures of an ordinary day brought her genuine happiness. Her strong work ethic, quiet contentment, and devotion to family were a true reflection of the woman she was.
A service to celebrate Lynn’s life will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. by the graveside at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Pastor Ken White presiding. The family will greet friends and loved ones Monday evening, August 24, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.

She is also survived by her sisters, Joyce Newcomb, Ann Crawford and husband, Murray, of Faison and Margaret Nelms and husband, Grover, of Rocky Mount; along with numerous nieces, nephews, special cousins, and other extended family members who were dear to her heart.
In addition to her parents, Lynn was preceded in death by her son, Glenn “Eddie” Edward Weeks; grandson, Joey Weeks; and siblings, Shirley Lee, Hetty Whitfield, Carolyn Harwell, Jeanette Baker, Clayton Murphy, and Harvey Charles Murphy.
Lynn’s life was one woven together by hard work, faith, family, and an appreciation for life’s simplest blessings. Those who knew her will remember a woman who understood that some of life’s greatest treasures are found not in possessions, but in time spent together, a familiar place, a quiet evening at home, and the love of family. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the values she lived by and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
