August 16, 2026, 61, – Michael James Godwin, 61, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Wayne UNC Health Care surrounded by his family. Born on November 29, 1964 in Alaska, he was son to the late Everette Godwin and Ann McSweeney Godwin.
Michael was a man who truly enjoyed life and cherished the time he spent surrounded by his family and close friends. He was deeply loved by many and will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Michael had a great love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, whether in saltwater or freshwater. He also found great pleasure in cooking for his family and friends, often bringing people together around a good meal and creating lasting memories.
Michael proudly served in the United States Air Force, honorably serving his country and demonstrating his dedication and commitment to something greater than himself.
Above all, Michael treasured his family and friendships. His presence, kindness, and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Lawrence Godwin; his sons, Brandon and Cody Godwin; his brother’s, Dennis and Roy Godwin; his brother-in-law’s, Jeff Lawrence (Sandra) and Chuck Lawrence (Carmen); and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor Michael will be held at a later date.
