Computer-Integrated Machining Instructor Bailee Gilbert and Human Resources Development Instructor / Reentry Coordinator Brandi Matthews each received a trophy and a monetary prize to use for travel or professional development.
Gilbert was described as an instructor who exemplifies excellence in community college education. One of Gilbert’s colleagues said, “The machining program at WCC has become a model of excellence that is well-known in the state under her leadership and vision.”
Gilbert was also honored for her technical expertise, leadership, positive learning environment, and commitment to student success. “She has become a respected leader in the machining industry, earning the admiration of colleagues, students, and manufacturing professionals alike,” another colleague said.
Matthews was commended for encouraging students to think critically and independently, as well as her ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life. “She doesn’t just teach course material; she teaches resilience and professional identity,” her nominator said.
Additionally, Matthews’s nominator said her impact is defined by her ability to create spaces where individuals feel seen, valued, and supported. “Her 16-year tenure at WCC is marked by a rare combination of super-energetic classroom delivery and a profound dedication to community service,” her nominator said.
