August 2, 2026, 87, – Virginia Lucinda “Ginny” Lowder Herring, 87, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Florence, South Carolina, on July 30, 1939, Ginny was the daughter of the late Grady Lee Lowder and Dorothy Westbrook Higdon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Chief Willard Ray Herring, Sr., retired Chief of the Goldsboro Fire Department; her stepfather, Clarence Higdon; her brothers, Gene Lowder and Jimmy Lowder; and her sisters, Margaret Jones and Mary Frances Wells.
A woman with a nurturing heart and a gift for caring for others, Ginny devoted her life to children. Before raising her own family, she lovingly opened her home to foster children, providing them with the security, compassion, and encouragement every child deserves. Her passion for caring for young lives led her to own and operate Ginny’s Daycare in Goldsboro for many years. She later continued her life’s calling as the director of the daycare ministry at Pineview Baptist Church, where she touched the lives of countless children and families. Her kindness, patience, and gentle spirit left lasting impressions on all who knew her.
Ginny had been a member of New Hope Friends Church and lived her life with quiet faith, unwavering love, and a servant’s heart. She was immensely proud of her husband’s dedicated service to the City of Goldsboro as Fire Chief and faithfully supported both him and the department through her involvement with the Ladies Fire Auxiliary.
When she wasn’t caring for others, Ginny treasured the simple joys of life. She loved square dancing, camping, and fishing, especially when those adventures were shared with her family. Above all else, her greatest joy was the family she loved so deeply. Whether gathering around the table, celebrating milestones, or simply spending time together, those moments were the treasures she held closest to her heart. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a constant source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her family was her greatest accomplishment, and the legacy of love she leaves behind will continue through each of them.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Ginny’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. John Morton and the Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Ginny is survived by her son, Willard Ray Herring, Jr. and wife, Edna; her daughter, Sharon Dawn Herring; her grandson, Justin Dargan Herring; and many cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

Though Ginny’s gentle presence will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with those who have gone before her and now rests peacefully in the presence of her Savior. Her life was a beautiful testimony of love, compassion, and faithfulness, and her memory will forever be treasured by all who were blessed to know her.
