August 2, 2026, 73, Grantham-John Lisker Tart, II, 73, peacefully entered into his eternal rest on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wayne County on September 7, 1952, he was the son of the late John Lisker and Marjorie Stevens Tart.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Denny Tart and grandparents, Lisker and Minnie Mae Tart.
John is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, LaRue Rogers Tart; sons, John Tart, III (Jessica) and Jeremy Price (Karey); grandchildren, Blake Price, Hunter Moore (Cary), Hannah Smith, Peyton Price, Haiden Price, Eliza Tart, and Delilah Tart; sister, Dianne Tart Thornton (Kenneth); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John was a graduate of Southern Wayne High School, Mount Olive Jr. College, and NC State University with a BS in Agriculture Education.
John was a beloved teacher, farmer and a dedicated employee with the State of North Carolina where he served with the Department of Agriculture and retired as the Chief Supervisor of Probation and Parole in the Department of Corrections. John was a dedicated member of multiple organizations including the NC Grange, Easy Street Cruisers, The American Quarter Horse Association, American Boer Goat Association, NC Pecan Association, Future Farmers of America, Brightleaf Saddle Club, Wayne Regional Fair and the Wayne County Livestock Association of which he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
John was a member of Selah Christian Church in Grantham and attended St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bentonville.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Daniel Lewis and Pastor Patrick Muston officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home in the Grantham Community. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Charlie Denning Cemetery on Bentonville Road, Four Oaks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church or Selah Christian Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
