GOLDSBORO, NC — Three people were displaced after an early morning house fire on Magnolia Street led to the collapse of a two-story home, according to the Goldsboro Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 413 Magnolia St. at approximately 12:11 a.m. on May 23. Crews arrived on scene just three minutes later and found heavy fire showing from the residential structure.
Five units responded to the incident, including Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, Tower 1, and Battalion 1, with a total of 14 personnel. Due to the intensity of the fire, the on-scene commander requested additional manpower from Engine 2, which responded with three more firefighters.
Firefighters initially launched an interior attack but were forced to withdraw because of worsening fire conditions and concerns about the structural integrity of the home. The fire quickly spread throughout the building and eventually caused the house to collapse.
Crews brought the fire under control at 2:19 a.m., but remained on scene until nearly 7 a.m. conducting salvage and overhaul operations.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Three residents were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined but is believed to be unintentional.
The Goldsboro Police Department and Wayne County EMS also assisted at the scene. The Goldsboro Fire Department thanked the MarMac Fire Department for providing coverage at headquarters during the incident.
