GOLDSBORO, NC – A Goldsboro community tradition honoring the memory of Tommy King is set to return this month, with more than 120 bicycles ready to be gifted to local children.
During a recent interview on WGBR, organizers shared details about this year’s Two Wheelers for Tommy, an annual event created in 2022 after the passing of King, a beloved local father, friend, and community member.
Kriquette’s Kidz founder Kriquette Davis said the event was designed to keep Tommy’s spirit alive through something he loved — riding bicycles.
“Tommy was just such an amazing person in our community, and we wanted a way to keep his spirit alive,” Davis said.
The program began by giving away 65 bikes in its first year. Since then, it has continued to grow, distributing 100 bikes, then 107, and now 127 bicycles will be given away in 2026.
Organizers work with Bicycle World, which orders and assembles the bicycles before the event. Each bike is selected based on a child’s height and other needs to ensure it is a special gift tailored specifically for them.
This year’s giveaway will take place Sunday, May 17, at approximately 3 p.m. at The Hub in downtown Goldsboro. Volunteers will gather behind Bicycle World and walk the bikes down Center Street to waiting families.
Davis said the event relies heavily on volunteers, with about 150 helpers needed to make it successful.
Volunteers can assist by walking bikes, carrying helmets, or helping families locate their designated pickup areas.
Family members say the event remains a meaningful way to remember Tommy King and celebrate his love for family and the outdoors.
“It’s a wonderful way for us to continue to remember him and honor him every year,” Jacqueline Kannan said.
Tommy’s daughters, Lola and Charlotte, are also helping support the cause through a lemonade fundraiser. Their lemonade stand proceeds benefit Two Wheelers for Tommy and Kriquette’s Kids.
The girls say visitors can expect several lemonade flavors, with strawberry among the favorites, along with cookies.
