GOLDSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina Lt. Gov. Rachel Hunt will visit Wayne Community College on Monday, May 18, as part of her statewide Future-Ready North Carolina tour highlighting workforce development and the role community colleges play in preparing students for in-demand careers.
Hunt is scheduled to arrive at WCC at 1 p.m. and will be joined by college leadership, local elected officials, and representatives from the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce during the campus visit.
The tour will begin at the Deacon Jones Automotive Center, home to the college’s Automotive Systems Technology and Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology programs. College officials say partnerships with local dealerships provide students with hands-on training using industry-standard equipment and technology.
Hunt will also tour the Center for Industrial Technology and Engineering (CITE), WCC’s newest facility, which houses several Applied Technologies programs focused on preparing students for high-tech careers that support local economic growth.
The visit will conclude in the Pine Building, home to the college’s nursing programs. The building is currently undergoing renovations and expansion to accommodate anticipated enrollment growth and help address North Carolina’s ongoing nursing shortage.
“Wayne Community College is honored to welcome Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt to our campus to learn more about our programs, hear directly from our students, and see how we are meeting the needs of our community,” said WCC President Dr. Patty Pfeiffer. “We are grateful for her interest in highlighting North Carolina’s community colleges as we lead students to academic success and meaningful careers in today’s workforce.”
Hunt’s Future-Ready North Carolina tour includes visits to all 58 community colleges across the state. The initiative aims to spotlight successful workforce training programs while gathering feedback on how the state can better support community colleges and students.
College leaders say the visit underscores Wayne Community College’s commitment to workforce readiness, economic development, and expanding educational opportunities for Wayne County residents
