May 6, 2026, 64, Durham – Shirley Jemima Hill, 64, of Durham, originally of Wilson peacefully departed this life surrounded by the love of her family Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Born in Wilson NC May 7, 1961, she was the beloved daughter of the late James Allen Hill, Sr. and Shirley Lucas Hill.
Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth, strength, and caring spirit touched countless lives. She found great joy in her family and especially cherished the time spent with her children and granddaughters. To many of her nieces and nephews, she was lovingly regarded as a second mother, offering guidance, comfort, and unconditional love throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Allen Hill, Sr., and her mother, Shirley Lucas Hill.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Locoya Hill; daughter, Derrika Wright Perkins; son-in-law, Matthew Perkins; and her treasured granddaughters, Kathrine Perkins and Victoria Perkins. She is also survived by her sisters, Pamela Woodard (Linus) and Sylvia Coleman (Alexander); her brothers, James Allen Hill, Jr. (Vanessa) and Corey Hill; along with a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
In honor of Shirley’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A private celebration for family and close friends will be planned at a later date.
