April 12, 2026, 82, Kenly – Peggy Pittman Bailey, 82, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Wilson Medical Center. Born in Johnston County on July 22, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Haskell Pittman and Elizabeth Boswell Pittman.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by loving husband, John “Demps” Bailey; daughter, Sandy Collins; grandson, Jimmy Lamm; and brothers, Leo Pittman and Billy Pittman.
Peggy is survived by her children, WendyThorpe and husband, Allen,andFrank Bailey and wife, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Jeffrey Bailey and wife, Amber, Harvey “Rat” Whitley and wife, Ashlee, Brandi Mitchell, Dustin Collins, Ashlynn Swett and husband,Thomas, Josh Bailey and wife, Alaina, and Noah Bailey; great-grandchildren, Logan Bailey, Adalyn Bailey, Ashlyn Ritch, Christian Collins, Ryleigh Collins, Jeremiah Randolph, and Tuesday Collins; and brothers, Cleo Pittman and wife, Lena, and Doug Pittman and wife, Susan. Peggy is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Peggy dedicated many years of her life as a faithful bank teller at First Union Bank. She took pride in her work and formed lasting relationships within her community.
At home, Peggy found great joy in cooking for those she loved. Her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals, and no gathering was complete without her famous “Mema’s Punch,” a special recipe that became a treasured tradition among family and friends.
Peggy’s greatest devotion was to her faith. She loved her Lord and Savior deeply and was a dedicated member of Crosspointe Baptist Church in Fremont, North Carolina. Her faith guided her daily life, and she was a shining example of grace, compassion, and steadfast belief.
Above all, Peggy cherished her family. She poured her heart into caring for them, supporting them, and celebrating life’s moments both big and small. Her love was constant, her presence comforting, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 3 p.m. at Crosspointe Baptist Church in Fremont, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Interment services will follow at Kenly Cemetery.
