April 10, 2026, 85, Goldsboro – Wilbert Dalton “Dal” Blizzard, age 85, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Johnny Blizzard and Hettie Bell Smith Blizzard. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, J.D. Blizzard, J.C. Blizzard, his sister-in-law, Marjorie Blizzard and brothers in law, Frankie Vinson and Bob Murphy and his beloved White German Shepherd, “Sadie”. Dal was a truck driver for many years for Keebler and was a firefighter with the Wilson Fire Department for thirteen years where he was known as their, “Chef”.
Dal was known as a skilled carpenter who could build anything, loved telling jokes and enjoyed his NASCAR racing, especially when it involved Dale Earnhardt. He loved working in his yard and it was his pride and joy; he was very particular about it and would not allow anyone to touch it.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Toler officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
Dal is survived by his wife, Ruth Davis Blizzard; his children, Tammy Gomez, Tim Blizzard, Missy Brock and her spouse, Billy Brock, Jr., and Amanda Townsend and her spouse, Sissy Townsend; his sisters, Patsy Vinson and Shirley Murphy; a sister in law, Dickie Blizzard; nine grandchildren, Christopher Gomez and spouse, Emily Gomez, Carla Gomez, Justin Blizzard, Kendall Brock, Lainey Brock, Trey Brock, Benji Townsend, Dalton Townsend and Novelle Townsend; four great grandchildren, Nevaeh Gomez, Addilee Vasquez, Ethan Gomez and Chandler Gomez; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
