GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Eleven people were displaced and two firefighters were injured following a late-night structure fire Saturday at a double-wide manufactured home in Goldsboro.
According to the Goldsboro Fire Department, crews responded at 7:56 p.m. on April 11, 2026, to a reported outside fire at 1411 Herring Street. However, when the first unit arrived, firefighters observed flames showing from both the roof and a window of the residence.
A full alarm was immediately requested, bringing six apparatus and 21 personnel to the scene. Firefighters launched an interior attack as flames had already spread throughout much of the structure. Crews conducted an extensive search for hidden pockets of fire as they worked to contain the blaze.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 10:19 p.m., but some units remained on scene until 12:26 a.m. to extinguish hot spots, expose smoldering areas, and conduct salvage operations.
Eleven residents were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Two firefighters were injured while battling the blaze. One firefighter was treated at the scene by Wayne County EMS and returned to duty. The second firefighter was transported to the emergency department at UNC Health Wayne, where they were treated and released for a knee injury. The firefighter will remain out of work until cleared by a physician.
The origin of the fire remains undetermined but is considered unintentional.
Multiple agencies assisted during the incident, including the Goldsboro Police Department, Wayne County EMS, Wayne County Emergency Management, the American Red Cross, and Rosewood Fire Department.
Officials did not report any civilian injuries.
