March 25, 2026, 78, Dobbersville – John William McCullen, 78, of the Dobbersville community, passed away late Wednesday evening at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
He is survived by his son, John W. McCullen, II and his wife, Andrea, of Raleigh, NC; his beloved granddaughters, Avery and Olivia McCullen; and his special friend, Joyce Herring of Newton Grove, NC. He is also survived by his brother, M.F. McCullen and his wife, Faye, of Mount Olive; a half-brother; a half-sister; and several nieces and nephews.
John, affectionately known as “Johnny,” was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Faison McCullen and Anna Geneal Summerlin; and his sisters, Dixie Sutton and her husband, Melvin, and Jennifer Parker.
Johnny was a lifelong farmer in the Dobbersville community. He took great pride in caring for the land and enjoyed raising a variety of crops and vegetables. He was a faithful member of Browning’s Methodist Church, where he was always willing to serve both his church and community in any way he could. He played an active role in fundraisers and especially enjoyed the fellowship of the church’s men’s group.
Funeral services will be held Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. The Rev. Robert Faircloth will officiate, with remarks also shared by Glenn McCullen. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will take place Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
