GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro man wanted on federal firearm charges was taken into custody Monday morning following a brief standoff in Raeford, according to the Goldsboro Police Department.
Authorities say the case began on January 11, 2025, around 9:03 p.m., when officers on routine patrol in the 300 block of Hollowell Avenue in Goldsboro observed Daktari Harris, identified as a convicted felon, in possession of a firearm. After a short foot pursuit, Harris was apprehended and the firearm was recovered.
Following the arrest, federal partners with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives presented the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, where a federal indictment was issued. Harris had previously been released on bond related to the state charges prior to the federal indictment.
Authorities say Harris later attempted to evade capture on the federal charges, prompting assistance from multiple agencies, including the United States Marshals Service.
On March 30, 2026, shortly after 6:30 a.m., members of the U.S. Marshals Service, ATF, and the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office located Harris in the 100 block of Franklin Street in Raeford, North Carolina. After a brief standoff, Harris was taken into custody without further incident.
During the arrest, authorities reported Harris was found in possession of six additional firearms, including two modified to be fully automatic.
Harris was transported to an undisclosed facility, where he will be processed and arraigned on federal charges.
