GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Drivers in Goldsboro and across Wayne County are feeling the pinch at the pump as gasoline prices continue to climb sharply, mirroring a nationwide surge fueled by global tensions and increased travel demand.
According to recent data, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has increased 10 cents from last week and nearly one dollar over the past month, with prices rising from $2.98 on February 26 to $3.98 today. Analysts warn the national average could reach $4 per gallon in the coming days — a level not seen since August 2022.
The increase comes as crude oil prices remain elevated amid the ongoing Iran conflict, which is nearing the four-week mark. At the same time, spring break travel demand is driving increased gasoline consumption, further pushing prices upward.
Goldsboro and Wayne County Prices Rising
Drivers in Goldsboro are already seeing steady increases across all fuel types:
Goldsboro / Wayne County Fuel Price Averages
- Regular: $3.708 (up from $3.649 last week and $2.688 last month)
- Mid-Grade: $4.114 (up from $4.083 last week and $3.164 last month)

Compared to one year ago, prices have climbed significantly, particularly diesel fuel, which has increased by more than $2 per gallon in some cases — a factor that can also impact shipping costs and consumer prices.
Experts say higher speeds, increased travel, and global instability are combining to create the current spike, with motorists likely to see continued fluctuations in the coming weeks.
As spring break travel continues and summer driving season approaches, drivers in Goldsboro and throughout Wayne County are encouraged to plan trips carefully, combine errands, and monitor local fuel prices to help manage rising costs.
