GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Mental Health Association in Wayne County will host a community Lunch and Learn later this month focused on understanding eating disorders and reducing the stigma often associated with them.
The event, titled “Eating Disorders: Understanding the Illness and Breaking the Stigma,” will take place Monday, March 30, from noon to 1 p.m. at Wayne Community College in The Learning Center, located at 3000 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro.
The program will feature Billy Tart, DNP, of UNC Health Wayne, who will discuss the complexities of eating disorders, including how they develop, common warning signs, treatment options, and ways individuals and families can provide support.
Organizers say the Lunch and Learn is designed to help raise awareness and encourage open conversations about mental health while connecting community members with valuable information and resources.
“Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions that often go misunderstood,” organizers said. “This event is an opportunity for our community to learn more about the illness, challenge stigma, and better support those who may be struggling.”
The event is free and open to the public, and complimentary lunch will be provided. Community members are encouraged to RSVP in advance.
