WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — The Safe Kids Wayne County Coalition is partnering with local law enforcement agencies to host two Operation Medicine Drop events aimed at helping residents safely dispose of unused or expired medications during National Poison Prevention Week.
The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the Goldsboro Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office to reduce the risk of accidental poisonings and misuse of medications in the community.
Two drop-off events are scheduled:
-
Tuesday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mae’s Restaurant, Seven Springs
-
Wednesday, March 18, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Cry Freedom Missions Thrift Shop
During the events, residents can bring unused, unwanted, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications for proper disposal. Organizers say the program helps prevent medications from being accidentally ingested, misused, or entering the environment through improper disposal.
Officials noted that hazardous materials, liquids, and creams cannot be accepted at the drop-off locations.
Participants who bring medications in their original prescription containers are encouraged to mark out their name and any personal or identifying information before turning them in.
Community members are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to safely clear out medicine cabinets while helping protect children, families, and the environment.
