GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Goldsboro ABC Board presented a $102,564 distribution to the City of Goldsboro during a recent City Council meeting, highlighting continued growth, upcoming facility upgrades, and a new round of grant funding for local nonprofits.
ABC officials said the board is in the process of completing a new, modern store in the Rosewood area, expected to open in approximately 60 days. The previous location in the shopping center closed after its lease expired. In addition, construction is underway on a new warehouse and office complex — the first major upgrade of its kind in roughly 40 years.
“As we’re growing, you’ll be getting more of these,” an ABC representative told council members while presenting the check.
Grant Program Now Open
The board’s annual grant program is now accepting applications through April. The program provides funding to nonprofit organizations in Goldsboro and Wayne County, particularly those connected to alcohol or drug education, prevention, and rehabilitation efforts.
Past applicants have included groups such as the United Way of Wayne County and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County. ABC officials noted that while the application process is detailed, staff are available to help organizations complete it.
Nonprofits interested in applying or residents wishing to report concerns about local establishments can contact the ABC office at 919-778-7731. The board’s law enforcement division works alongside the Goldsboro Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office to conduct inspections and address complaints. Officials said there are approximately 250 permitted establishments in the county, including about 60 mixed beverage locations in Goldsboro.
No Taxpayer Funding
ABC leaders also addressed common misconceptions, emphasizing that ABC boards in North Carolina operate without taxpayer funding. Instead, they are self-sustaining and distribute proceeds to local and state governments after operational expenses are paid.
Statewide, ABC boards distributed approximately $750 million last year to communities across North Carolina. In Goldsboro, total distributions exceeded $350,000 last year, approaching $400,000.
The $102,564 presented to the city will be incorporated into Goldsboro’s general budget as part of its annual revenue planning.
Officials encouraged residents and nonprofit leaders to explore the grant opportunity and to contact the ABC office with any questions.
