GOLDSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina Community Federal Credit Union (NCCFCU) is alerting members and local residents about a phone scam that began circulating on Feb. 23, 2026.
According to the credit union, scammers have been contacting individuals by phone and phishing text messages while pretending to represent NCCFCU or its Fraud Center. Officials say some of the calls appear to come from the credit union’s main phone number, (919) 734-8224, while others originate from random numbers.
NCCFCU emphasized that caller ID information can be falsified and should not be relied upon to verify the identity of a caller.
The credit union is reminding members that it will never:
-
Ask for an online banking password
-
Request a full Social Security number
-
Ask for a one-time verification code
-
Request a debit or credit card PIN
-
Ask for full debit or credit card numbers
-
Pressure members to act immediately by phone or text
-
Ask members to click on a link sent via text message
Anyone who receives a suspicious call or message claiming to be from NCCFCU is advised not to respond and to hang up immediately. Members should then contact the credit union directly using the phone number listed on the back of their debit or credit card or on the institution’s official website.
Officials also urge anyone who believes they may have shared personal or account information to contact NCCFCU as soon as possible.
