GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Upsilon Chi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society at Wayne Community College has been named a 2025 R.E.A.C.H. Rewards Chapter, an honor recognizing excellence in student membership development and engagement.
The R.E.A.C.H. Rewards program — which stands for Recognizing Excellence in Acceptance and Completion with Honors — celebrates PTK chapters that achieve exceptional membership acceptance rates. Chapters across the country are recognized annually for expanding access to the academic, leadership, and scholarship opportunities PTK provides.
Phi Theta Kappa recognizes the academic achievement of students at two-year colleges and supports their growth as scholars and leaders. Membership offers lifetime benefits, including scholarship opportunities, professional development courses, and discounts with partnering businesses.
“We are incredibly proud of our chapter for being named a 2025 R.E.A.C.H. Rewards recipient,” said Katie Holloman, WCC chapter contact advisor. “This recognition reflects our students’ commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and meaningful engagement on campus and in our community. This is a powerful symbol of our students’ hard work and the strength of our chapter.”
As part of the recognition, Upsilon Chi received 16 complimentary PTK graduation stoles for members to wear during commencement ceremonies.
In 2025, 139 new members accepted invitations to join the chapter. Currently, 181 members are enrolled at Wayne Community College, with numbers expected to continue growing as additional eligible students accept invitations in 2026.
Students must maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average in required semester hours for degree, diploma, or certificate programs to qualify for membership. Dual-enrolled high school students participating in WCC’s Career and College Promise program are also eligible. The college hosts induction ceremonies each fall and spring for new members.
