WAYNE COUNTY — The lottery application period is now underway for three of Wayne County’s innovative public schools: Wayne Early/Middle College High School, Wayne School of Engineering, and Wayne School of Technical Arts.
To help students and families learn more about each program, information sessions will be held throughout the coming weeks, offering details about academics, student opportunities, and the application process.
The Wayne School of Engineering (WSE) will host an information session for current fifth-grade students and their families on Tuesday, January 27, at 6 p.m. in the Wayne School of Engineering cafeteria. Opened in 2007, WSE serves students in grades 6–13 and offers an honors-level curriculum with a strong emphasis on collaboration. In partnership with Wayne Community College, students have the opportunity to earn a two-year associate degree while completing their high school coursework.
Wayne Early Middle College High School (WEMCHS) will hold two information sessions for current eighth-grade students and their families on Wednesday, January 28, at 6 p.m., and again on Tuesday, February 10, at 6 p.m., both in the Wayne Community College auditorium. Established in 2006, WEMCHS serves grades 9–13 and is located on the Wayne Community College campus. Students are dually enrolled in high school and college courses and may earn a high school diploma along with an associate degree or two years of college transfer credits within four to five years. All high school courses are offered at the honors level, and students do not pay tuition or purchase college textbooks.
The Wayne School of Technical Arts (WSTA) will host an information session for current fifth-grade students and their families on Thursday, January 29, at 6 p.m. in the Meadow Lane Elementary School cafeteria. Opened in Fall 2022, WSTA offers a STEM-focused education with an advanced curriculum. Students can pursue the AP Capstone Diploma Endorsement and/or earn industry credentials in a technical arts field. Located on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, WSTA serves both military-connected and non-military-connected students in grades 6–12.
Parents and guardians who are unable to attend an information session are encouraged to contact the schools directly for additional details. The deadline to apply for inclusion in the lottery is 4 p.m. on Friday, February 13. Applications are available at www.waynecountyschools.org by selecting “Lottery Applications.”
