MOUNT OLIVE, NC — The University of Mount Olive has unveiled the newly renovated Kornegay Arena following an upgrade designed to enhance the fan experience and elevate the atmosphere for Trojan Athletics.
Construction on the renovation began in December 2025, following Fall Commencement on Dec. 12, and marked the first phase of improvements to the long-standing facility. The primary focus of the project was replacing the original bleachers with modern, stadium-style chairback seating.
“This is a major upgrade,” said Joey Higginbotham, UMO athletics director. “It gives us a safe environment with the comfort fans deserve and elevates the atmosphere for high-level Division II athletics.”
The upgraded seating configuration now extends from court level to the upper deck, providing increased comfort, improved accessibility, and a more engaging viewing experience for fans. The renovation modernizes Kornegay Arena while preserving its role as the home of Mount Olive basketball and volleyball.
Beyond improving the game-day experience, the renovations are also expected to have a significant impact on recruiting efforts and the overall perception of UMO Athletics.
“It will be the first thing recruits see when they visit campus,” Higginbotham added, “It creates a ‘wow factor’ and positions us as having one of the top facilities in Conference Carolinas.”
The Kornegay Arena renovation represents UMO’s continued commitment to investing in its facilities and supporting the growth of Trojan student-athletes and the greater Mount Olive community.
