WAYNE COUNTY, NC – Local governments across Wayne County have announced office closures and service adjustments in observance of New Year’s Day on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
Wayne County government offices will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, and will reopen on Friday, Jan. 2, for regular business hours. All branches of the Wayne County Public Library will close early at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 1. Library branches will reopen Friday, Jan. 2.
The Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center will be closed on New Year’s Day and will reopen on Friday, Jan. 2. In addition, the Wayne County landfill and all convenience centers will be closed on Thursday and reopen Friday for normal operations.
City offices in Goldsboro will also be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, and will reopen on Friday, Jan. 2.
In Mount Olive, town offices will be closed on New Year’s Day and will reopen Friday, Jan. 2, at 8 a.m. The Mount Olive Recyclable Center will also be closed on Thursday and will reopen on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 8 a.m.
Mount Olive officials noted changes to household garbage collection for the holiday week. Monday and Tuesday routes will run as scheduled. Wednesday collection will follow the normal Thursday route, and Friday collection will run on its regular schedule.
Mount Olive residents experiencing a water or sewer emergency during the holiday are asked to call 919-658-5031, option 0, to be connected with non-emergency dispatch.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and check with their local government or service provider for any additional holiday schedule changes.
