MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — It’s a big dill for Mount Olive! The North Carolina Pickle Festival has earned another reason to celebrate after being named the 2026 Finest Festival by Carolina Country Magazine.
The recognition highlights one of eastern North Carolina’s most beloved annual traditions, which draws thousands of visitors to downtown Mount Olive each spring for a celebration of pickles, agriculture, entertainment, and community pride.
The N.C. Pickle Festival celebrated its milestone 40th anniversary in April 2026, marking four decades of honoring the region’s cucumber crop and the iconic Mt. Olive Pickle Company, the nation’s top-selling pickle brand.
In announcing the recognition, Carolina Country Magazine praised the festival’s unique combination of fun and flavor, noting that whether visitors prefer their pickles sweet or dill, the annual celebration offers something for everyone.
The festival has become a signature event for Mount Olive and Wayne County, showcasing the area’s agricultural heritage while bringing visitors and economic activity to the community.
A Festival Packed with Pickle-Themed Fun
From pickle-eating contests to family-friendly entertainment, the N.C. Pickle Festival offers activities for visitors of all ages.
Festival highlights include a pickle costume contest, a 5K run, carnival rides, a pickle-eating contest, a recipe competition, and the popular Tour de Pickle bicycle ride.
Visitors can also enjoy a classic tractor show, live entertainment on multiple stages, food and merchandise vendors, and a beer, wine, and distillery garden.
The festival celebrates the important role agriculture plays in eastern North Carolina, particularly the cucumber crop that helps supply the Mt. Olive Pickle Company.
Beyond the pickles, the event has become a source of community pride, bringing together local businesses, organizations, volunteers, and visitors from across the state and beyond.
Looking Ahead to 2027
With the 2026 Finest Festival recognition now added to its accomplishments, organizers are already looking ahead to another exciting year.
The 41st Annual N.C. Pickle Festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2027, in downtown Mount Olive.
The annual celebration promises another opportunity for visitors to experience the food, entertainment, and small-town hospitality that have made the festival a favorite North Carolina tradition.
