October 27, 2026, 85, – Nellie Gray Smith, age 85, passed away Tuesday evening, October 27, 2026 at Wayne/UNC Healthcare. Born in Pitt County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Lillian Pearl Arnold. She and her husband, Johnny were the owners and operators of Johnny’s Food Stores.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Johnny R. Smith; sons, Frank Snell and Joseph L. Richardson; four grandchildren, Ryan Snell, Ashley Pesek, Joe Richarson, Jr. and Michael Earl Richardson; eight great grandchildren.
Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be held Friday, October 30, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Sherman Dilly officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at the funeral home.
