GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The midway lights have dimmed, the rides have stopped spinning, and another chapter of a beloved Wayne County tradition has come to a close.
The 2026 Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair has officially wrapped up another exciting edition of “The Best Ten Days of Fall,” bringing together families, friends, students, and visitors from across eastern North Carolina for a celebration of agriculture, entertainment, competition, and community spirit.
For more than 75 years, the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair has been a fall tradition, creating memories that span generations. This year’s fair continued that legacy with thrilling carnival rides, delicious fair food, livestock exhibitions, educational displays, live entertainment, and competitions showcasing the talents of local youth and adults.
Ten Days of Memories
From the excitement of the midway to the familiar sights and smells of funnel cakes, cotton candy, and other fair favorites, there was something for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
Families gathered to experience the rides and games, while others explored agricultural exhibits, admired livestock, and cheered on competitors who spent countless hours preparing for their moment in the spotlight.
Even Mother Nature made an appearance, bringing rain that temporarily interrupted fair activities during the opening weekend. But the wet weather couldn’t dampen the community’s enthusiasm for one of Wayne County’s favorite annual events.
Celebrating Our Youth and Local Talent
One of the fair’s greatest traditions is recognizing the hard work, dedication, and achievements of young people throughout the region.
Students competed in livestock shows, vocational competitions, science contests, talent performances, and educational exhibits.
Among the highlights, Hampton Williams earned Grand Champion honors in the Beef Heifer Show, while Jackson Pipkin claimed Grand Champion in the Beef Steer Show.
The fair also showcased talented students in carpentry, medical spelling, mathematics, science, cheerleading, music, and dance.
The Queen of the Fair Pageant crowned Harley Lanier of East Duplin High School as the 2026 Queen of the Fair, adding another memorable moment to this year’s festivities.
Beyond the ribbons, trophies, and awards, these competitions provided opportunities for students to demonstrate their skills, build confidence, and take pride in their accomplishments.
Honoring Generations and Community Traditions
The fair wasn’t just about the younger generation. It also provided an opportunity to celebrate the people and traditions that make Wayne County special.
During the Salute to Senior Citizens celebration, participants were recognized for milestones involving family, marriage, and community connections.
Among those honored were Rosemary and Ron Rands, who were recognized for 66 years of marriage, and Ashley Kennedy of Pikeville, who was recognized as the oldest senior citizen at age 92.
From longtime fairgoers who have attended for decades to children experiencing their first carnival ride, the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair once again brought generations together.
A Community Effort Worth Celebrating
Behind the bright lights, exciting attractions, and competitive events are countless volunteers, organizers, exhibitors, vendors, sponsors, and community supporters who help make the fair possible each year.
Their efforts help preserve the agricultural heritage of Wayne County while providing opportunities for education, entertainment, and community involvement.
The fair also serves as a reminder of the importance of agriculture in eastern North Carolina and the value of passing those traditions along to future generations.
Until Next Year!
As the fairgrounds grow quiet and another season of memories is packed away, the excitement and traditions of the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair will live on through the photographs, ribbons, friendships, and experiences shared during this year’s event.
From the livestock barns to the midway, from student achievements to family celebrations, the 2026 fair offered plenty of reasons for Wayne County to be proud.
Until next year, Wayne County — thanks for another wonderful edition of “The Best Ten Days of Fall!”
