GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Students and young competitors put their skills to the test Monday, Oct. 5, during another busy day of competition at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair.
Monday’s events included vocational competitions in carpentry and health occupations, math contests and the popular LEGO On the Spot Contest.
In the Carpentry Competition, Southern Wayne High School swept the top three positions. Zachary Sauls earned first place, followed by Carlos Martinez in second and Herminio Elizalde in third.
The Health Occupations Medical Spelling Bee featured students from Spring Creek and Southern Wayne high schools. Leydi Diaz Hernandez of Spring Creek High School captured first place, while fellow Spring Creek student Daniber Gaspar Velaquez finished second. Trace Turnage of Southern Wayne High School earned third place.
Students also competed in two divisions of the Math Contest. In Division I, Robert Wilson and Fadt Alhursumi of Wayne School of Engineering took first place. JahQuell Artis and Xaryah Jenkins finished second, while Valeria Castaneda and Easton Vinson placed third.
In Division II, Connor Rubio and Antony Jobson of WSTA earned first place. Anna Sauls and Sally Coates of Wayne Country Day finished second, and Alexis Dietz and Briana Duruttya took third.
Younger fairgoers showcased their creativity during the LEGO On the Spot Contest.
In the ages 5-8 division, Sam Fitzsimmons took first place, Anderson Richter finished second and Fletcher Grubbs earned third.
For ages 9-12, Aaron Ostronic captured first place, followed by Benjamin Bullard in second and Cody Fitzsimmons in third.
The competitions continue the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair’s tradition of showcasing the talents, creativity and skills of students and young people from across the area as part of the “Best Ten Days of Fall.”
