GOLDSBORO, N.C. — An 18-year-old Goldsboro woman has been charged with second-degree murder following a shooting early Monday morning that left a 16-year-old dead.
According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers responded around 1:45 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, to a residence in the 800 block of Olivia Lane following a report that someone had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The teenager was transported to UNC Health Wayne, where he later died from his injuries.
The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and began an investigation.
Police said investigators identified 18-year-old Ne’vayah Sharae Smith of Goldsboro as a suspect. Smith was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop.
Smith has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of discharging a firearm within the city limits. She was served with warrants and placed in the custody of the Wayne County Detention Center with no bond.
Police have not released the name of the 16-year-old victim.
