September 26, 2026, 91, Goldsboro – Sancha (Sue) Polk, 91, of Goldsboro, NC, passed a way peacefully on September 26, 2026. She was born in 1935 in Lezo, Aklan Phillipines, the daughter of Maximino Yerro and Delores Triste. She married Jay Polk in 1957 and had three children. After moving around with the military, the family settled in Goldsboro.
Sue dedicated her time to her children and family. She was a beloved homemaker and a friend to everyone she met.
While her husband was in the Army, she was a member of the Officer’s Wives Club. She loved to attend baseball games of her sons and nephews, and soccer and dance recitals of her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jay H. Polk and is survived by her three children, Darlene Polk, Jay Jr Polk, and Jerry Polk (Cappy); sisters Ellie Lee and Patti Pejera; grandchildren Justin Williamson, Ian Williamson (Sarah), Alexandria Stegall (Jared) and Jared Polk; nephews Steven Lee (Beth), Brian Lee, Reyman Pejera, RT Pejera (Amanda) and niece Jaziel Pejera. Sue has four great grandchildren and several great nieces and nephews.
She was known as Ate Sue and will be missed by her many friends in the Goldsboro area.
The visitation will be held Monday, October 5th from 12:00-1:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, Dudley, NC with the service immediately following. A graveside service will be held at Eastern Carolina State Veteran Cemetery at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (Alzheimer’s.org).
