September 28, 2026, 83, Mount Olive – Mrs. Marian Shivar Barwick, long time resident of the Mount Olive area, passed away at her home, Monday morning, September 28, 2026, with her children by her side.
A native of the Liddell community near Seven Springs, she grew up attending Daly’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, and was a graduate of Moss Hill High School. She also was a graduate of the two-year Mount Olive College.
She met and married Franklin Barwick, a farming man, and they began their life together. For many years, she was employed with Witherington-Thompson Insurance Agency, and later with Thomas Allen, CPA in secretarial and bookkeeping. Later she became the business manager at Bryan Center Nursing facility in Goldsboro, and from there, she retired. Her retirement years allowed her to continue with bookkeeping on a part-time basis with B. W. Barwick Farms of Seven Springs.
A talented pianist, she, for years, provided piano music for Zion United Methodist Church in the Pricetown community, and also at other churches in the area. She was a member of Northeast Free Will Baptist Church near her home.
Known for her excellence in the kitchen, she was an avid gardener and vegetable grower, and was quite successful with growing huge collards.
Mrs. Barwick leaves behind her three children and their spouses, Nathaniel Franklin “Frank” Barwick, Jr. and Pamela Howell Barwick, of the home, Kristy Barwick Albert and Scott Albert of Goldsboro, and Leslie Barwick Ashworth of Wilson; and her beloved grandchildren, Nathaniel William Barwick, Hunter Spaulding Barwick, Cole Franklin Barwick, Amber JaHanna Grady, William Scott Albert, Joshua Davis Albert, and River Clay Ashworth. Also surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Virginia Shivar of Dudley, D. W. and Edie Shivar of the Liddell community, Seven Springs; a sister-in-law, Trudy P. Shivar of the Pricetown community, Seven Springs; additional sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Mary Dell B. and Butch Lewis of the Indian Springs community, Mount Olive, and Faye B. Barwick of Mount Olive; several nieces and nephews; and a former sister-in-law still considered as family, Sue Jones, of the Rones Chapel community, Mount Olive.
In death she now reunites with her husband, Nathaniel Franklin Barwick; her parents, Willie Tapp Shivar and Doris Price Shivar; two brothers, Larry Kent Shivar and Walter Timothy “Tim” Shivar; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John Harvey Barwick and Hattie Holloman Barwick; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold Barwick, Harvey J. and Joyce Barwick, Leonard M. Barwick and Marie Barwick Kennedy, and Kenneth Ray “Pep” and Glenda Barwick.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 1, at Tyndall Funeral Home, beginning at 12:30 p. m, with funeral services following at 1:30 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Doug Johnson and the Rev. Bryan Wheeler. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will also receive friends at the Barwick residence.
