September 25, 77, Fuquay-Varina – Gregory Lee Quinton, 77, of Fuquay-Varina, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on July 19, 1949, in Milwaukee, WI, Greg was the eldest son of Harold Whitfield Quinton and Elizabeth “Betty” Denetz Quinton. He graduated from West Rome High School in Rome, GA, and Georgia Tech University in 1972 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Greg had a long and successful career working in the Power Transmission & Distribution industry. He loved working and became extremely knowledgeable in the field, which took him all over the world.
In 1970, Greg married the love of his life, Janice. They built their life around their faith and their family. Greg loved his family fiercely. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a provider and protector who took great pride in caring for the people he loved. Greg showed his daughters the importance of faith, love, hard work, and responsibility.
Greg loved the Lord and his faith was at the center of his life. He served as an elder of the Church of Christ for many years and was influential in the baptisms of his daughters and many others. He cared deeply about sharing his faith and helping others come to know Christ. Outside of spending time with his family, Greg had a lifelong love of all things Georgia Tech. He enjoyed reading his Bible, playing golf, watching football, and working outside in the yard.
Greg is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Barker Quinton; his daughters, Hollie Heller (Bobby), Heather Tripp (Chad), Corey Himmelheber (David); his brothers, Tommy Quinton (Mary), Danny Quinton (Marlene); a sister, Jeannie Cole (Doug); and his grandchildren R.J. Heller, Haylie Heller, Addie-Grace Tripp, Whitfield Tripp, Sebastian Himmelheber, and Lillian Himmelheber.
Greg will be remembered for his faith, his love for his family, his intellect, sense of humor, and the many lives he touched through his service to the Lord. While his family grieves his absence, they find comfort in the knowledge that Greg is now with his Lord and Savior. As Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).
A service in honor of the life of Greg will be held at Oak Forest Church of Christ, 2705 N. Park Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534 on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends starting at 12:00 pm before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
