September 6, 2026, 92, Dudley – Edna Earl Best Lewis, 92, of Dudley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, surrounded by the loving family who meant so much to her.
Edna was born on September 22, 1933, in Wayne County to the late James Earl Best and Lona Pate Best. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James L. Lewis; her son, James H. Lewis; and her brother, Harold Best.
Edna lived a life rooted in love, faith, family, and friendship. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose gentle presence and caring heart touched the lives of so many. Her family was truly the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them. The memories they made together will be cherished forever.
Edna graduated from Pikeville High School in 1951 and went on to build a long career with the Social Security Administration Office, where she retired as a Claims Specialist. Following her retirement, she remained active with the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Her faith was an important part of Edna’s life. She was a dedicated member of Dudley Christian Church, where she especially enjoyed the cooking, eating, fellowship, and wonderful friendships she shared with her church family. She found great joy in being surrounded by people she loved.
Edna also had a love for traveling and seeing new places. She enjoyed the opportunity to experience the world around her, but above all, it was the people she shared her life with who brought her the greatest happiness. Her family and friends were, without question, the most important part of her life.
Edna leaves behind her daughters, Peggy Wallace and husband Robert and Lynn Smith and husband Jimmy; granddaughter, Heather Crumpler; great-grandson, Luke Crumpler; brother, Henry Best and wife Grace; and sister, Marilyn Hollamon and husband Ed. She also leaves behind her two beloved cats, who brought her much companionship and joy.
Though Edna’s passing leaves an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her, her family takes comfort in knowing that her love, kindness, faith, and the memories she created will live on in them. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered every day.
