MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash with reported injuries late Saturday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 117 Bypass South and Old Smith Chapel Road in Mount Olive.
Members of the Mount Olive Fire Department and an EMS unit from a nearby station were dispatched to the scene.
When firefighters and EMS personnel arrived, they found the vehicles in the median with heavy damage. Firefighters had to force open the driver’s-side door of one of the vehicles to free the driver.
Mount Olive Police officers were among the first emergency personnel to arrive and began directing traffic around the crash scene to provide firefighters and medical personnel room to work.
The extent of the injuries and whether anyone was transported to a hospital were not immediately available.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Motorists traveling through the area experienced traffic disruptions while emergency crews worked at the scene.
