September 3, 2026, 94, – Catherine Potter Dawson, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the family she loved dearly.
Catherine was born in Lenoir County on February 24, 1932, to the late Eustace Potter and Ruby Elizabeth Weeks Potter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lee Ashton Dawson, Jr., and her sister, Neal Outlaw.
Catherine was a faithful Christian woman whose life reflected her love for the Lord and for those around her. She was a longtime member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of who she was. Catherine cherished her church family and found comfort and strength in her relationship with the Lord throughout her life.
For 35 years, Catherine was a familiar and beloved face at Norma’s Dress Shop in Goldsboro, where she worked in sales. She took great pride in helping ladies find just the right clothing and enjoyed making each customer feel special. Over the years, what began as a job became an opportunity to build lasting friendships with countless women throughout the community. Catherine’s warm personality, kindness, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Above all, Catherine treasured her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on through the generations of her family.
As Catherine entered the presence of her Lord, she leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, kindness, and friendship. While her family will deeply miss her earthly presence, they can find comfort in knowing that she is now at home with the Lord she faithfully served.
A graveside service to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Wayne Memorial Park. Following the service, the family will greet friends at the cemetery.
Catherine is survived by her son, Ronnie Lee Dawson; daughter, Cathy Vaughn; grandchildren, Amber Dawson Smith, Joseph Lee Stuckey, and Murphy Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Dawson, Donnie Stuckey, Mimmo Stuckey, and Sophia Stuckey; and brothers, Ray Potter and wife, Jessie, and Royce Potter and wife, Faye.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Catherine’s memory to St. John Free Will Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
