MARS HILL, N.C. — The University of Mount Olive men’s soccer team suffered a 6-0 road loss to Mars Hill on Sunday afternoon at Ammons Family Athletic Center & Meares Stadium.
Mars Hill took control early when Edward Saia scored in the ninth minute to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage. The Lions added another goal in the 29th minute to carry a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Mars Hill extended its advantage with goals in the 48th and 61st minutes before scoring twice more over the final six minutes to secure the victory.
Mount Olive finished the contest with six shots and three corner kicks. Abdoulaye Saine recorded the Trojans’ lone shot on goal, while Kevin Jimenez, Leon Odongo, Zao Cheron, Connor Piwowarski and Rami Bayoumi also registered attempts.
Goalkeeper Nick Cutlip played all 90 minutes for Mount Olive and finished with eight saves.
The loss drops the Trojans to 0-1-0 on the season, while Mars Hill improves to 1-0-1.
Mount Olive returns home to face Shaw on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m.
