GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Wayne STEM Academy has delayed the start of its school year until Tuesday, Sept. 8, as school leaders work to finalize official documentation needed to open.
The school had previously planned to welcome students on Aug. 25. The delay affects all students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
In a message to Wayne STEM families, Executive Director Dr. Forgette and the WSA Board of Directors acknowledged the change could create challenges for families who had already made plans around the original opening date.
“We will not put your scholar in a building until every safety box is checked,” school leaders said in the announcement.
Under the revised schedule, there will be no school from Aug. 25 through Sept. 4, with the first day of classes now scheduled for Sept. 8.
Wayne STEM Academy said the full school calendar will be adjusted to account for the missed days. Those changes are expected to be addressed at the school’s next Board meeting.
Families can also expect additional information in the coming days. Dr. Forgette is expected to release a special video message early next week, and updated Open House details will be announced.
School leaders are also planning a WSA Wildcat Chat Town Forum with Dr. Forgette and the school’s leadership team for Thursday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m. A location for the forum had not yet been finalized.
Wayne STEM Academy thanked families for their patience as preparations continue and said it looks forward to welcoming students on Sept. 8.
