August 21, 2026, 90, Goldsboro – Mary Louise (Sullivan) Essing, 90, passed away with her son Michael by her side on Friday August 21, 2026 at her home in Goldsboro, NC. She was born in Greensburg, PA on August 2, 1936 to the late Timothy Joseph Sullivan and Mary Josephine (Long) Sullivan of Irwin, Pennsylvania.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence A. Essing.
Mary Louise and Larry were married almost 60 years, following their wedding on October 14, 1961. Mary supported her husband through his 28-year career in the US Air Force, traveling and making homes for the family in Ohio, California, Kansas, Florida, Spain, Washington before finally retiring in North Carolina.
Mary loved reading, talking with friends, her soap operas, Friday bowling league at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and watching Pittsburgh Steelers football. She was a member of the Seymour Johnson Enlisted Spouses’ Club and volunteered at the SJ AFB Thrift Store for over 30 years.
Mary Louise is survived by her daughter, Justina Essing; her sons, Lawrence Essing and Michael Essing; her grandson, Justin (wife Lindsey) Essing; grandson, Matthew (wife Analee) Hect; and her great-granddaughters, River Blue Essing and Isabella Analee Hect.
Her family will gather for a private graveside service in her honor.
The family is in the care of Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
