August 19, 2026, 56, Mount Olive – It is with profoundly heavy hearts that we announce that on August 19, 2026 beloved Lynwood Strickland passed away, surrounded by family at Genesis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Olive.
Lynwood was known by those that loved him as the gentlest giant, a man whose heart was even bigger than his muscles. He had a profound sense of humor and took pride in being able to make people around him laugh. There was never a joke that went untold around Lynwood.
Lynwood was born in Wayne County, North Carolina on November 20th, 1969. In his life, he had many hobbies and interest; hot wheel collection, classic cars and most of all, watching the UNC Tar Heels college basketball team. He was loved by a great many people and will be forever missed dearly.
Lynwood was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lucy and Larry Dail and sister, Samantha.
He is survived by his brother, Billy Williams; his best friend and former wife, April Strickland; their daughter, Maddison Mellon; son-in-law, Colin Mellon and grandchildren, Lofton, Kaid and Avalynn.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 21, 2026 from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory.
