Verna Jedon Anderson, lovingly known to all who knew her as “Tootsie,” was born to Mary Grace Hill-Anderson and Ambert Gillette on September 22, 1960, in Kinston, North Carolina. Tootsie was a woman whose love was felt deeply by everyone fortunate enough to know her. She worked for many years as a caregiver at O’Berry Center, where she dedicated herself to caring for others. After becoming ill, she retired in 2001. That same year, she made Raleigh, North Carolina, her home, where she continued raising and nurturing her children and building a life filled with family, love, and cherished memories. Tootsie found joy in the simple things in life. She loved gardening, crafts, plants, and shopping. She was an amazing cook and took great pleasure in preparing meals and gathering her family together for any occasion. Her home was a place where family could come together, share a meal, laugh, make memories, and simply enjoy being with one another. Above all, she cherished her family. She was an amazing mother, the sweetest grandmother, a loving sister, and an aunt who absolutely adored her nieces and nephews. Her love was generous, genuine, patient, and unconditional. She had a special way of making the people around her feel loved and cared for. Tootsie’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of family and love.
