August 9, 2026, 93, Mount Olive – Mary Elizabeth Bullock Swinson, 93, of the Beautancus community of Mount Olive, passed away peacefully late Sunday evening at her home. “Lib” as known to most is survived by her son; Vic Swinson and his wife Teresa of Mount Olive; and her two daughters, Wanda Hash and husband Casey of Virginia, and Patricia “Pat” Cipriani and husband Chris of Clayton, NC. She is also survived by her siblings; Nancy Shonk of Pennsylvania, and Janice Smith of Rocky Mount, and Mike Bullock and his wife Margaret of Rocky Mount; her grandchildren, Lee Swinson and his wife Brooks of Mount Olive, and Katie Jernigan and her husband Chris of Kenansville; and four great-grandchildren, Colt Garrett, Bella Jernigan, Hogan Jernigan, and Henry Jernigan. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Gail Swinson of Mount Olive.
Lib was a hard working woman from her earliest beginnings. She cared for and looked after her siblings from a young age, while attending school and eventually graduating High School. She worked for years in Norfolk V.A. with the Chesapeake & Potomac Phone company, and made sure her family back home was always taken care of while she worked and strived to provide for them. After traveling to Florida with her brother Atung, she married the love of her life William, and returned to Mount Olive to raise a family of her own. Lib took great pride in everything she did, especially her grandchildren, and cooking those home cooked meals where among her favorite things to do. She also enjoyed time spent in her yard and gardening. She was a member of Stanford Presbyterian Church.
Lib was preceded in death by her parents; Lewis Albert Bullock and Beulah Cowan; her siblings, Pauline Savage, Geraldine Donnell, Ralph Bullock, W.B. Bullock, Edward Bullock, and Atung Bullock.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, at 11 o’clock in the morning at Tyndall Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 10am until service time, and at other times at the home located on Tear Shirt Road. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family wishes to also acknowledge the Gentiva Hospice Staff and caretakers for the kindness and attentive care shown to their mother during her declining health.
