August 8, 2026, 62, Newton Grove – David Bert Holland, of Newton Grove, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Wayne County, David was the son of the late Bert Holland, Jr. and Nettie McCullen Holland. He attended the Grantham School System and received his GED from Johnston Community College . Throughout his working life, David was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He was employed for many years as a security guard with NC Salvage, later worked as a parts delivery driver for Peterbilt of Dunn, and most recently served as an ABC Store clerk in Newton Grove.
A faithful member of Pleasant Union Christian Church, David’s love for his church family was evident in all that he did. He was an active member of the Men’s Club, faithfully served with the church’s audio ministry, and was a devoted supporter of the Vacation Bible School program. David especially loved children and found great joy in encouraging and serving others through his church.
David will be remembered as a man with a generous spirit, a contagious smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. He never met a stranger and delighted in telling stories that brought laughter to those around him. He possessed a caring heart, was always willing to lend a helping hand, and had a special gift for lifting the spirits of anyone who was feeling down. He understood the value of hard work, cherished his family, and treasured every moment spent with those he loved.
His nieces and nephews held an especially special place in his heart and were truly the pride and joy of his life. He shared an especially close bond with his sister, Katina Ann, whose love and friendship meant the world to him.
David is survived by his beloved wife and longtime sweetheart, Nancy McCullen Holland; his sister, Katina Ann Holland-Rhudy and husband, Michael; his special aunt, Alice Holland; his nieces and nephews, Dillon McCullen, Carolyn Best, April Greene, Matthew McCullen, Sadie Grace Rhudy and Charlie Rhudy; great nieces and nephews, Jacob, Carolina, Cullen Jack, Ava, Asher, Grayson, and Ayden. He also leaves behind many extended family members, church family, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Union Christian Church in Newton Grove, with Pastor Debora Stilley, Reverend Frank Sandy, Pastor Matt Sharp, and Reverend David Jarman officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. At other times, they will be at 3180 William R. King Road in Newton Grove.

Though his earthly journey has ended, David’s legacy of faith, kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
