GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A new chapter begins this weekend for Goldsboro’s Dylan Newsome as Newsome Family Racing announced the young driver will make his CARS Tour debut during the prestigious Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Newsome will pilot the No. 44 Late Model Stock featuring a special Kyle Petty-inspired Victory Junction throwback paint scheme, combining one of stock car racing’s most celebrated traditions with support for a meaningful cause.
The announcement comes following the cancellation of the remainder of the 2026 IHRA Stock Car Series season. At the time the season ended, Newsome was leading the IHRA championship standings, giving the team confidence as it shifts its focus to one of the nation’s premier Late Model Stock touring series.
“Leading the IHRA championship made the season’s cancellation difficult for our team, but we’re excited for what’s ahead,” Newsome said. “The CARS Tour is where we want to compete, and making our debut during Hickory’s Throwback weekend with a Victory Junction tribute is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
The No. 44’s throwback design pays tribute to NASCAR fan favorite Kyle Petty while spotlighting Victory Junction, the camp established in memory of Adam Petty. The camp provides life-changing experiences for children living with serious illnesses and chronic medical conditions, giving families an opportunity to create lasting memories in a supportive environment.
The Throwback 276 has become one of the signature events on the CARS Tour calendar, with teams from across the region unveiling nostalgic paint schemes that honor the sport’s rich history. For Newsome and his team, the event also serves as an opportunity to introduce themselves on one of Late Model Stock racing’s biggest stages while raising awareness for Victory Junction’s mission.
