July 22, 2026, 69, Goldsboro – W.D. “Dub” Newton, II, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love and care of those closest to him.
Born in Wichita, Kansas, on March 2, 1957, Dub was the son of Karene McBride Newton and the late W.D. Newton. Throughout his life, Dub was guided by a genuine desire to serve others and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around him.
With a heart for service, Dub dedicated over 35 years of his life to serving others as a registered nurse in various hospitals. He later retired from the state of North Carolina where he served as the Eastern Regional Nurse Supervisor of Juvenile Justice Health Services.
Together with his beloved wife, Debi, Dub fulfilled a shared dream by owning and operating Café Le Doux in Goldsboro. More than just a coffee shop, Café Le Doux quickly became a gathering place where friendships were formed over his expertly roasted coffee. His passion for coffee roasting earned him the affectionate reputation throughout the community as “the coffee man,” and many looked forward to both his coffee and even more so to his company.
Dub embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. His wide range of interests included cycling, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, roasting coffee, and sharing his knowledge as a certified Amrit yoga instructor. Whatever he pursued, he did so with passion, generosity, and an eagerness to learn more.
While Dub’s accomplishments were many, nothing brought him greater joy than his family, friends, and community. His gentle spirit, kind heart, charisma, and unwavering love leave a lasting legacy that will continue to be felt by all who knew him.
Dub is survived by his loving wife, Debi Newton; his children, Andrew Newton, Casey Newton, and Maryana Newton; his stepdaughter, Missy Schmid; his cherished grandchildren, Gavin Newton, Owen Newton, Isabella Newton, Ava Schmid, and Kristian Schmid; his mother, Karene McBride Newton; his brother, James Newton; his sister, Leslie Marshall; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that he loved very much.
The family will gather at their home, 120 Hilldale Lane, Goldsboro, on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. for a time of remembrance and fellowship. Friends are invited to come share memories and celebrate Dub’s remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dub’s memory to ECU Health Maynard Children’s Hospital for Pediatric Cancer Research or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Though his earthly journey has ended, Dub’s legacy of compassion, service, friendship, and love will live on in the countless lives he touched and in every cup of coffee shared among friends in his memory.
