July 23, 2026, 86, Goldsboro – Garold Gail “Gary” Schwind, 86, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at UNC Health Wayne. Born in Zeeland, North Dakota on August 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Henry and Magdalena Meidinger Schwind.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Beatrice Jenson Schwind; eight brothers; and four sisters.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Mischelle Carpenter (Grant) and Stephanie Jackson (Danny); son, Brett Schwind (Wendy); grandchildren, Derek Brown, Cameron Brown (Amelia), Ian Carpenter (Sami), Jennifer Jackson Bell (Colby), Jordan Jackson Kayes (Sean), Ryan Schwind, and Steven Schwind; great-grandchildren, Theo, Cora, Renna, Carmen, Jackson, and River; brother, Harley Schwind; sisters, LaVerne Walth, Marlus Reese, and Jeanette Rudolph; and several nieces and nephews.
Following a distinguished career of 22 years in the United States Air Force, Gary honorably retired from military service. His strong work ethic and commitment to serving others continued long after his retirement as he embarked on a second career in the automotive industry. Over the years, Gary became a familiar face at several automobile dealerships throughout Goldsboro, where he served in a variety of roles, including sales and service writing. His knowledge of the automotive world, genuine care for his customers, and friendly personality earned him the respect of colleagues and the trust of countless friends and customers throughout the community.
Gary was a longtime, devoted member of Jefferson Methodist Church, where he faithfully worshiped and served alongside his beloved wife. Together, they dedicated countless hours to the life and ministry of their church, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever there was a need. His servant’s heart extended beyond the church walls as a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels, faithfully delivering not only meals but also kindness, compassion, and friendship to those he served.
To know Gary was to know someone who truly lived life to the fullest. He was affectionately described by those who loved him as a true “character”—a man whose larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and unmistakable sense of humor could brighten any room. His generosity knew no bounds, and he never hesitated to help a friend, neighbor, or even a stranger. Whether sharing a laugh, telling one of his many stories, or offering a helping hand, Gary left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of faith, service, laughter, and love will continue to be cherished by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his remarkable spirit.
Gary’s family will gather for a time of visitation and fellowship from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Seymour Funeral Home.
